Scrap Metal Collection Raises Cash for Charity

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

The initiative of one Envirocare employee has resulted in extra cash for local charities.  John Merton a retail park caretaker identified the opportunity whilst disposing of scrap metal at the site he manages in the North West.  John said “Scrap metal accumulates regularly on the site, it makes sense to get what we can for it.  We’ve been collecting scrap for over 12 months now, last year we raised £250 which was donated to Clare House Children’s Hospice, the local Fire Service  and two small local charities, the most recent donation of £400 was to the Air Ambulance.  We donate using Gift Aid which adds a further 28p for each pound donated.  The stores on the site are very supportive of our scheme, as is Gareth from the Property Management Company.  We also have a Brandy bottle for pennies we collect from contractors visiting the site, usually bits of change from their lunchtime bacon butties!”  John and his colleague David Williams are now raising funds for a local charity supporting adults with learning disabilities, the grand total to date stands at £250 – keep up the good work lads!
