We would like to give a very warm welcome to Dave Gallagher, who is the newest member of staff to join our team.
Dave joins us as our Commercial Director – a new role responsible for developing our business, ensuring that we continue to grow whilst looking after our customers and our people – the values that have made us successful since our foundation in 2005.
Dave is a former Army Officer who served in the Royal Engineers for 6 years. Following his time in the Military, he moved to Royal Mail, where he spent the next 6 years leading teams in Finance, Operations Programmes and Operations – playing a part in Royal Mail’s modernisation programme. Most recently he was Plant Manager at Royal Mail’s sorting facility in Preston.
Dave said “you don’t find many companies which place such emphasis on looking after their customers and their people. There’s a lovely family feel to Envirocare – it feels like a business with the right priorities and I can’t wait to play may part in its next chapter!”
Now for Daves’ “6 quick questions” for us get to know him a little better….
What was your 1st ever job and how old were you?
I was 18 and I spent the summer working for a recruitment agency in Blackpool. I had to turn up to the office at 0500hrs to be told where I was going that day. I did all sorts of stuff – including dustman, loading wagons in a furniture factory, and working on a production line in a crisp factory – one of my jobs was to stand by a conveyor belt of crisps and pull out the burnt ones!
What’s playing in your car right now?
I have an 80s rock ballads playlist on my iPhone – it has some great stuff like Roxette, Heart, Don Henley, Tina Turner, Seal, Michael Bolton, Lionel Ritchie…..I should stop before it gets embarrassing…..!
Name your favourite 3 course meal…doesn’t have to be from the same style restaurant
Scallops and Black pudding to start with, probably rump steak for the main. I’m not a massive dessert person really – I’ll finish with an Irish Coffee please!
Which famous person would you most like to meet and why?
Barack Obama – there’s a great integrity to him. When he speaks, you feel like to get to know him, what he cares about, his values. To be able to speak like that is a powerful gift – I’ve a lot of respect for that.
Describe yourself in 3 words
Happy, engaging, analytical
Favourite holiday destination or place you would love to visit?
I went to Bali for my honeymoon back in May – that was amazing – interesting culture and lovely people – it feels like an adventure but English is widely spoken, the hotels are world-class and the food and water is reliable. Right up my street!
