Continuing our travels around the country, we called in on Adrian who runs our Cambridge depot.
Cambridge has always been associated with The University, setting the standards for research and higher education globally. Today, it is also more than just a university town with high tech, fast paced technology businesses co-existing alongside cutting edge pharmaceuticals and world renowned research institutes. There is a diverse and international population with many language schools and a thriving private education sector. Commenting on the grounds maintenance carried out in the Cambridge area, Adrian said “we feel privileged to provide grounds maintenance to a number of important and interesting sites”.
Central to the team’s approach in Cambridge is to understand the operational requirements of clients. For instance, working around teaching schedules and managing the impact of noise created by grounds maintenance on our clients’ day-to-day activities. Co-ordination and clear communication with clients also helps keeps things running smoothly.
As well as providing services to a wide variety of sites, Adrian and the team also look after some of our more unique sites, here’s a few examples:
Cold War bunker
You don’t necessarily think of a cold war nuclear bunker built in the 1950’s as a regional seat of government being in the city. Built with 5ft thick concrete walls, this bunker is now a Grade II listed building of historic importance according to English Heritage.
Wildflower meadows
The team in Cambridge maintains wildflower meadows. We use our specialist knowledge to keep undesirable invasive species such as brambles and tree saplings out and maintain the diversity and beauty of meadows that can attract bees, butterflies and birds.
Nobel prize winners
Of course, our tour of Cambridge should mention our work with educational clients, a prominent sector for our growing grounds maintenance operations. Of interest, people working at one of the sites we maintain has global importance and has had not one but two Nobel prizes awarded.
