Josh Shepherd is the first winner of Envirocare Grounds Maintenance “Employee of the Year” award. Josh started working for Matt & Michelle Astley at the Lancaster/Morecambe depot back in March 2013 when they had only had the business a couple of months. Josh was 19 years old at the time and started off as an apprentice. Josh worked with Matt covering the South Lancashire area. When Matt moved to the North Lancashire area later that year, Josh, at the age of 20, took the decision to move out of his parents’ home in Nelson and move 45 miles away up to Carnforth so he could continue working for Matt. He had no family or friends in this area but enjoyed his job so much that moving was the only option. Over the years Josh has always maintained a high standard of work, he has had very little time off sick in the past three and a half years and Matt has to force him to take his holidays, which he refuses to take in the growing season. He has a very positive attitude towards his work, has built up good relationships with residents on the sites and is extremely reliable.
Josh Shepherd interview:
He appreciates the fact that they clear and clean sites, making them look their best all year round. It’s the attention to detail. He enjoys working outside and every day is different. He wants to learn to drive to hopefully be promoted to Supervisor. He was very surprised to win the award, he is very proud of himself, he is going to spend the money on a treat for his girlfriend and Christmas. He is looking forward to meeting the teams at Head Office when he visits. Outside of work Josh enjoys gardening, playing computer games and socialising.
Josh would like to thank everyone!
